Immunera builds blood tests that use gene sequencing and machine learning to help patients with autoimmune disease. Our technology has been published in Science and covered by The New York Times and STAT News.

We’re hiring a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to shape the core models and infrastructure that power our blood tests. We are partnering with hospitals to generate training data from real patients for our language models and other biological sequence models.

In your first 12 months, you’ll be responsible for developing and deploying our first test for clinical use. This is a senior engineering role with significant autonomy at an early-stage, venture-backed startup.

What you’ll work on

  • Design, train, evaluate, and deploy models across molecular datasets, including large language models applied to gene sequencing data.
  • Build pipelines and tools to run reproducible experiments, track model provenance, and monitor and deploy models in production.
  • Work closely with biologists and clinicians to ground modeling choices in immunology and medical fundamentals.

How we work

  • We keep the stack understandable and reproducible.
  • We collaborate directly with scientific and clinical partners to make sure we’re solving the right problems.
  • We try to be honest about what the data shows, especially when it means rethinking our assumptions.

What you bring

Required

  • Experience building and operating ML systems end-to-end in production.
  • Comfort working across modeling, data engineering, and infrastructure (Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, cloud platforms).
  • Ability to lead complex, research-heavy projects with scientists and clinicians.

Preferred

  • Experience with biological or clinical data.
  • Background in distributed training or ML platform design.
  • Contributions to open source or scientific literature.
  • Interest in helping shape a small, growing ML team.

You do not need a background in immunology to succeed here. We care much more about your ability to reason about data, models, and systems.

Why Immunera

You’ll join a small team working at the intersection of ML, immunology, and clinical care. The models you build will move quickly from research to real patients, and the platform you help design has the potential to improve care for millions of people over time. If decoding human health and bringing ML to patients sounds exciting, we’d love to talk.

We offer competitive compensation, equity, health coverage, and retirement benefits.
